ECOWAS vs Niger: Coup has Russia backing – Ohanaeze cautions against war

President Bola Tinubu has been called by the Ohanaeze Ndigbo socio-cultural organization to cease all military operations in the Niger Republic.

Ohanaeze forewarned that Nigeria will suffer greatly as a result of military actions in the neighboring Niger Republic because Russia supports that nation.

Okechukwu Isiguzoro, a factional Secretary-General of the organization, advocated for a peaceful settlement to the political situation in the Niger Republic in a statement.

He emphasized the need of stability and diplomacy in guaranteeing the general development and prosperity of the West African area.

“President Tinubu’s military operations in the Niger Republic could potentially escalate tensions with the Ecowas member countries and heighten regional security concerns,” the statement says in part.

It is crucial to remember that Russia’s reported involvement and assistance of the armies of Niger, Mali, Guinea, and Burkina Faso against the ECOWAS soldiers led by President Tinubu will be fatal for the member nations, especially Nigeria.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo thinks the US and UK governments are pressuring President Tinubu to take on the military junta in the Niger Republic.

The group does caution that such military interventions could not be successful for Nigeria.

It raises questions about the possible consequences of these operations, such as the possibility of increased instability, potential reprisal from the World Superpower-backed alliance of Niger, Mali, Guinea, and Burkina Faso, and the potential for the resources to be diverted from urgent domestic problems in Nigeria.
