EPL: Rice makes joke about Caicedo’s transfer to Chelsea

Declan Rice, a midfielder for Arsenal, made light of the fact that he had previously held the record for the most expensive player in the English Premier League during the current summer transfer window before Chelsea acquired Moises Caicedo for £115 million.

Just over a month ago, Arsenal and West Ham reached a £105 million agreement for Rice’s transfer. The fee set a new club record, and if add-ons are successful, the overall package will surpass the £100 million Jack Grealish cost Manchester City in the UK.

But Chelsea upstaged Arsenal by ultimately fending off opposition from Liverpool to sign Caicedo for a £115 million move – which establishes a new Premier League transfer record – after spending £107 million on Enzo Fernandez back in January.

Rice, who impressed during Monday night’s 1-0 Premier League victory against Crystal Palace for Arsenal, has already had his astronomical transfer fee overshadowed by Caicedo.

When Caicedo’s record move was mentioned, which exceeded his own price tag, Rice laughed and remarked to Sky Sports, “I had it up on the wall for two weeks! It has already started to fall.

Rice stated, “Before the game tonight, I was on the way to the game and I just thought, just go out there and have it tonight, try and put on a show.” This was in reference to Arsenal’s victory over Palace.
