Mr Wina was yet again arrested on March 11, 1959 in a general round-up of “suspected subversives”.
This followed rumours that the Nyasaland African Congress was about to launch a ‘murder plot’ against white Europeans.
This resulted in the federal government declaring a state of emergency, leading to the ban of the Zambian African National Congress (ZANC) and Northern Rhodesian African National Congress (NRANC), and also jailing its leaders
