The CEO of Smooth Promotions, which organizes the Headies Awards, Ayo Animashaun, refuted rumors that he said Wizkid had submitted his most recent album, “More Love, Less Ego,” for the 16th Headies’ nominations but that it had been rejected.
According to DAILY POST, Headies released the candidates for the 16th annual ceremony on Wednesday, with Burna Boy topping the pack with 11 nods.
Wizkid wasn’t on the list of candidates.
Social media users expressed their disappointment that the Starboy chairman was not included on the list, especially because he announced a new initiative during the year in review.
A screenshot of what seems to be a Smooth Promotions CEO’s Instastory post claiming that Wizkid submitted his album for nomination but was rejected was uploaded by a Twitter user with the handle @DerrickBugatti.
To all the naysayers: Wizkid’s MLLE album was truly submitted to Headies but was rejected since we don’t accept just anything. Perhaps he could put in more effort for the next year. According to the article, Animashaun had an Instagram story.
Animashaun responded on his verified Instagram profile, claiming that the viral post that was attributed to him was photoshopped.
He labeled it “malicious” and “fake.”
The Headies CEO commented, “This is malicious!,” while posting a screenshot of the popular post to his Instagram story. Photoshop is used.
Fake! Not me.”
