Movie Tickets Are Just $3 This Saturday For National Cinema Day

To celebrate National Cinema Day this weekend, many theaters across the US are offering $3 tickets. The National Association of Theater Owners (NATO) has announced that tickets to “every movie, every showtime, and every format” will be just $3 this coming Saturday, September 3. Taxes and fees are extra.

More than 3,000 theaters, including 30,000 screens, will take part in the event across the country. The National Association of Theaters Owners’ Cinema Foundation is putting on the event as a “thank you” to fans who turned up at theaters this summer to help reinvigorate the box office.

“After this summer’s record-breaking return to cinemas, we wanted to do something to celebrate moviegoing,” Cinema Foundation president Jackie Brenneman said. “We’re doing it by offering a ‘thank you’ to the moviegoers that made this summer happen, and by offering an extra enticement for those who haven’t made it back yet.”

Participating theater chains include AMC, Cinemark, and more. Some theater chains, like Cinemark, are offering $3 deals for snacks, too, like candy, popcorn, and soda. NATO advised moviegoers to visit their local theater’s website for more information on deals and showings.

The domestic box office is recovering from its massive pandemic slump, but it’s not back to pre-COVID numbers yet. Some of the biggest movies so far this year have included Jurassic World Dominion, Lightyear, Elvis, and Top Gun: Maverick, Everything Everywhere All At Once, Minions: Rise of Gru, Thor: Love and Thunder, and Jordan Peele’s Nope.

Looking ahead, some of the most anticipated films still to come this year include Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Avatar: The Way of Water, and Black Adam, just to name a few.
