Subsidy Removal: Reps give Tinubu new conditions

The House of Representatives has requested that the new administration offer palliatives to help Nigerians cope with the elimination of petroleum subsidies.

A committee formed last year to look at subsidies delivered a report that included the resolution.

The Committee of the Whole reviewed and approved the committee’s report on Thursday.

The purchase of CNG buses, which run on gas rather than petroleum, is one of the recommendations the House adopted.

“The Federal Government should right away devise remedies and palliatives to mitigate the effects of the elimination of subsidies for Nigerians beginning in the year 2023 through the provision and acquisition of CNG buses as a substitute transportation system with lower fuel consumption.

To facilitate the movement of large numbers of people throughout the nation, the government should also establish an intermodal, regional, and national transportation infrastructure.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu announced the cessation of subsidies, which resulted in an increase in PMS pump prices across the nation.

The most recent development has caused transportation providers to raise their prices as well.
