EPL: He did not sprint back – Roy Keane blames Chelsea star for Liverpool goal

During Sunday’s Premier League match between the two teams, Manchester United great Roy Keane criticized Chelsea captain Reece James for failing to race back and attempt to block Luis Diaz for Liverpool’s opening goal.

In their opening Premier League matchup of the year at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea and Liverpool drew 1-1.

Just 18 minutes into the game, Mohamed Salah broke down the right wing, cut inside, and played a beautiful pass for Diaz to score against Mauricio Pochettino’s team.

But a few minutes later, Axel Disasi evened the score, giving Chelsea and Liverpool one point each.

Keane, though, was not very pleased with James’ performance in setting up Liverpool’s goal.

The English defender, in the Irishman’s opinion, should have fought back after losing Diaz rather of giving up so readily.

“It’s brilliant, really good play from Liverpool, but James can actually see him [Diaz] running,” Keane stated on Sky Sports. James still doesn’t run back, though!

“That’s the part I don’t get.

We discuss strategies and tactics, but James is focused on Diaz as he runs away from him. Perhaps he will argue afterwards.

Although he hears him say, “Well I’m a wing-back and that is not my job,” he still doesn’t [track it]. You must run back as if your life depended on it.
