EPL: Poyet tells Declan Rice how to avoid flopping at Arsenal

Gus Poyet, a former Premier League player, explained to Declan Rice, an Arsenal newcomer, the only way he could flourish under manager Mikel Arteta.

This summer, the 24-year-old transferred from West Ham to Arsenal for approximately £100 million plus $5 million in add-ons.

The highly regarded midfielder got the ball rolling in Arsenal’s 2-0 loss to Manchester United in a preseason friendly.

He joined the team as a substitute in the second half of Arsenal’s 5-0 victory over the MLS All-Stars to make his debut for the club.

“I don’t know Declan Rice personally, but the most important thing for him is to understand what Arteta wants and how he wants to play,” Poyet said of the England international to FourFourTwo.

“He’s going to be terrific if he quickly grasps everything. He has the skills, thus he will undoubtedly play for Arsenal for the next ten years.

However, it will rely on how well Arteta is understood.
