Oscars: Stephanie Linus emerges Nigerian selection committee chair

Stephanie Linus, a well-known Nollywood actress, has been chosen to head the Nigerian Official Selection Committee, or NOSC, for the prestigious Oscars’ Best International Feature Film category.

Hours after Chineze Anyaene-Abonyi, the organization’s founder, formally resigned from her position as chair, NOSC announced Stephanie’s nomination.

According to DAILY POST, Anyaene-Abonyi’s departure occurred after she succeeded in getting the NOSC re-approved by the Oscars in time for the 96th Academy Awards, which will be held in 2024.

Following the resignation of the former chairwoman, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, AMPAS, approved the formation of a reorganized 14-member NOSC committee.

The Directors’ Guild of Nigeria (DGN) President, Dr. Victor Okhai, former DGN President, Mr. Andy Amenechi, theater practitioner Yibo Koko, writer/director Izu Ojukwu, and others are among the reconstituted members of NOSC. He is also the Managing Director of the Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC).
