Unfortunately, after the 2006 season, she was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and was sidelined for the entire 2007 season. Consequently, she retired from college volleyball at the end of 2007. Fibromyalgia is a disorder that causes widespread musculoskeletal pain, sleep, fatigue, and mood issues.

What Happened to Kelli Tennant?

In 2019, reports surfaced with court documents that Kelli Tennant had filed a sexual assault case against Luke Walton, the head coach of the Sacramento Kings. The former sports reporter filed the case at the Los Angeles Superior Court for assault, battery, sexual violence, and other related claims against Walton.

According to the legal papers, the incident happened in 2014 while Luke Walton was still an assistant coach at the Golden State Warriors. Luke had asked Tennant to bring a copy of a book she was writing to his Santa Monica hotel room in the guise of working on her foreword. Kelli claimed that both of them had always had a pleasant work relationship, so she didn’t see anything out of the ordinary about the invitation.

In the legal documents, Tennant stated that immediately after they got to the room, Luke forcefully pushed her to the bed, held her down, and kissed her. Not minding her screams at him to stop, he went ahead to rub his male organ on her body but eventually relented and let her walk away.

Kelli also stated that even after the incident, Walton would subsequently imply threats and make sexual comments whenever she was around him. Luke Walton denied all allegations. His employers, the Sacramento Kings, investigated the case but closed it four months later with the claim that there was no sufficient evidence to prove Tennant’s allegations.

Also, the NBA complained that Tennant did not cooperate with them during their investigation. On 5th December 2015, Kelli Tennant dropped the lawsuit after months of going back and forth. She later said that coming public with sexual assault accusations has always been a scary thing for the victim. Meanwhile, it is not revealed if she received any monetary compensation from Walton

Kelli Tennant was previously engaged to Amir “Nick” Eckbanti, the former UCLA offensive lineman. They got engaged in December 2013. Meanwhile, Amir got involved in a Redondo Beach motorcycle crash in 2012, and after undergoing a series of surgeries, his legs were amputated.

This incident seriously affected his relationship with Kelli because she had to quit her job to take care of him. At one point, she couldn’t continue with the relationship and decided to call off their engagement. “…I’m trying to build my career and at the same time, I’m trying to keep this guy alive. I just couldn’t handle it anymore”, she stated.
