I am still Iyaloja General of Osun – Asindemade counters Gov Adeleke
She cannot be removed from office, according to Awawu Asindemade, the former Iyaloja General of Osun State.
Asindemade additionally argued that she was the sole founder of her organization, a non-governmental organization.
In a statement released on Thursday by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke announced the appointment of a new Iyaloja General for the state, according to DAILY POST.
The governor praised the new Iyaloja General, Oyebode Aderonke Mary, as a formidable representative of the state’s business community.
Adeleke also mentioned Oyebode’s significant contributions to the expansion and advancement of trade in Osun.
Asindemade responded to her replacement by saying, “They merely removed themselves and not me. I am not troubled by that development, because they can’t prevent me from becoming the Iyaloja General; rather, the one nominated as the new Iyaloja General is for the PDP.
While the new appointment is the Iyaloja General of the PDP, I am still the Iyaloja General in Osun. We have a federal government, therefore it is not a problem if it chooses not to interact with us.
Additionally, Asindemade maintained that her office did not have a set tenure and that the state government lacked the authority to dismiss an Iyaloja General.
I don’t have a set tenure in my role as Iyaloja General. The removal of Iyaloja General is not a matter for the government. Our organization is a non-governmental one. It was founded by me,” she claimed.
In order to fill the position of Iyaloja General, Asindemade was chosen by the Rauf Aregbesola administration.
She continued to receive respect from the Adegboyega Oyetola administration throughout its term, but Awawu Asindemade ran into problems when the Ademola Adeleke administration took office on November 27, 2022.
It was claimed that in February 2023, state government agents searched her residence and took 31 other iyalojas in the state as well as the official vehicles she was in possession of.
She was reported to have gone to the Tinubu/Shettima presidential campaign event on February 2, 2023 in Osun at the Nelson Mandela Freedom Park in Osogbo.
The Osun Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the APC got into a yelling brawl after the raid on her home.
