Iwo-Osogbo Road: Osun Assembly expresses dissatisfaction over progress of work
The Iwo-Osogbo road reconstruction Adhoc Committee of the Osun State House of Assembly is not pleased with the quality of the work completed thus far.
The committee requested that the project’s construction company move more quickly, given the road’s significance to the local economy.
As part of its monitoring duties, the Committee headed by the Deputy Speaker, Akinyode Oyewusi, paid a visit to the construction site of the road project on Monday.
Oyewusi claimed during the visit that the Assembly’s interest in the project was necessary as a result of concerns from the public regarding the state of the road connecting the Ibadan boundary in Iwo with Dele Yes Sir in Osogbo.
“I must say that we are not at all impressed with the level of work done and the slow speed,” he said. The economic growth of our State depends heavily on this road. Investors won’t come in once the State Capital is not reachable via good roads.
“We are here to physically examine this project. As you are all aware, one of our constitutional obligations is oversight.
“We have requested an interview with the contractor in the plenary, and we have examined the contract paperwork as well as different reports from his business and the Ministry of Works. We’re here right now to look at the facts.
The Ministry of Works’ Director of Highway, Engr. Moruf Ojebode, disclosed that
You can be confident that “the Ministry will continue to perform its supervisory role to ensure that the road is delivered on time and with the required standard.”
Lekan Adeleke, the project manager for Peculiar Ultimate Concerns Limited, told the committee that the company will complete the road by the deadline in response to their worries.
The current completion rate is 21.1%. The speed will pick up as the dry season approaches, and the road will be completely usable in approximately ten months, he promised.
The Assembly established an Ad hoc Committee on the go two weeks ago after grilling the CEO of Peculiar Ultimate Concerns Ltd in plenary, as DAILY POST recounted.
