Nnamdi Kanu must not die in detention – Ekpa warns Buhari, DSS, Malami
Simon Ekpa, a well-known separatist and agitator for Biafra, told President Muhammadu Buhari, Attorney-General Abubakar Malami, the Minister of Justice, and the Department of State Security that Nnamdi Kanu, the head of the Indigenous People of Biafra, must not perish in jail.
The lawyer and Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile, BRGIE, based in Finland, urged Buhari, DSS, and Malami to release Nnamdi Kanu due to his failing health in a message made public to DAILY POST on Friday.
According to Ekpa, the Department of State Security’s (DSS) medical staff has certified that Nnamdi Kanu requires immediate medical attention.
He bemoaned the fact that Kanu had been complaining of ear ache for more than two years without receiving the necessary medical care.
He pleaded with the Nigerian government to either free Kanu right now or for his medical staff to care for him while he was being held.
He kicked at the DSS medical staff as they operated on Nnamdi Kanu.
He emphasized that Kanu must not experience any harm while being held by the DSS.
“According to the source, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, has been advised to undergo immediate ear surgery by the DSS Medical Unit. We am instructing the DSS Medical Unit with this letter not to attempt any such manoeuvre.
For more than two years, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has complained that his health is failing, but the DSS has refused to allow him to visit a doctor. Since his kidnapping and extraordinary rendition to Nigeria against his will, he has been without his reading spectacles; however, the DSS declined to provide the courtesy of replacing his glasses and providing an optical examination. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was exonerated by the appropriate court of any misconduct, but the DSS still holds him captive.
“By proposing this urgent surgery for him after denying access to his medical team, DSS has openly acknowledged that they have degraded Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s health and are now preparing to use surgery as a reason to poison and kill him.
If DSS is sincere, they ought to give Mazi Nnamdi Kanu permission to leave their prison and visit his medical team. Under the DSS surgeons or the Nigerian healthcare system, his life is not guaranteed.
Biafrans grieved DIG Joseph Egbunike, who passed away in March 2022 following surgery to remove a FISH BONE trapped in his throat. Therefore, we reject the DSS’s recommendation for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s urgent surgery because we see it as a “Trojan Horse” and disingenuous. Let’s say the DSS medical department insists that the procedure must be performed immediately and while the patient is still in custody. If so, they ought to let Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s medical staff do the procedure.
“All Biafrans must rise up right away and reject any dishonorable DSS attempt to operate in any way on our Leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Be certain that Nigeria will be on fire and that those accused of taking part in the kidnapping will pay dearly if anything were to happen to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu after his DSS surgery.
Recall that the Nigerian government re-arrested Kanu in 2019. Buhari’s administration refused to release him on bail despite numerous court decisions.
In another development, the Universal Peace Federation, UPF, presented Ekpa with the title of Ambassador of Peace during the African Day celebration in Helsinki, Finland.
