According to renowned comedian Bright Okpocha, aka Basketmouth, the Nigerian comedy scene, like Afrobeats, merits respect on a global scale.
The comments were made by Basketmout on Thursday during the premiere of the improvised African Original LOL (Last One Laughing Naija) comedy series.
He claimed that Nigeria is rich with excellent comedians who should be achieving international renown while discussing the best strategy for the industry to enter the global market.
When I was approached and told what the event was about, I thought, “This is the perfect chance to enter into that arena. I have always seen Nigerian comedy in a way where it is well recognized.
“Afrobeats entered the international market. However, Nigerian humor has not yet established itself. And Prime Video is available in more than 200 nations worldwide. We have comics that are talented who could break into this market, I said to Bright.
The Nigerian comedy industry is thus officially birthed to the rest of the world through this. This is the ideal setting for it,” he remarked.
Okey Bakassi, Buchi, Acapella, Sabinus, KieKie, Taaooma, and IGoSave are just a few of the ten Nigerian comedians who will perform at the event.
